Xbox just held their annual Xbox Games Showcase event in Los Angeles, where they announced the new game titles they’ll be releasing next year, and I was on the ground to get in on the hype.
The showcase featured a diverse lineup of games, from highly anticipated titles to unique and intriguing experiences, while highlighting the value of Xbox Game Pass with a wide range of games available from day one to subscription.
Additionally, Xbox announced that the new Xbox Series S console will now be available in black and will have 1TB of storage.
To the delight of the attendees, the show opened with an appearance by Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, or basically Xbox. We were then thrown into a trailer for the new Fable game, which received a huge cheer from the audience.
The trailer featured comedian Richard Ayoade, who first rose to fame starring in the TV show The IT Crowd, so the trailer was full of laughs. The game looks whimsical and fun, and while we didn’t get a release date for this game, it was definitely a good start to the demo.
Since then, we’ve been bombarded with many interesting game titles, such as South of Midnight, a third-person action-adventure game led by Hazel, a woman with mystical powers.
Another highlight of the event was the brand new Star Wars game being announced, much to the delight of the crowd. The game is called Star Wars Outlaws, which will be released in 2024. and features a strong and confident protagonist.
We’ve seen Payday 3, Persona 3 Reload, Avowed, and shocked and surprised viewers with the new Sea of Thieves: Legend of Monkey Island trailer. It certainly looks like it’s going to be incredibly fun for all ages and will be one of the first new games to be released on July 20th.
Then we were surprised by a new iteration of the famous Microsoft Flight Simulator called Flight Simulator 2024. In the past, the SIM was all about flying and hovering over scenic locations, but now Microsoft has given gamers a real purpose.
In many different aircraft, you can now perform tasks such as aerial firefighting in small planes, search and rescue missions, or transporting cargo while piloting a helicopter. You can even transport industrial cargo in large airplanes or fly a hot air balloon. I think even people who aren’t usually fans of simulator games can get a lot of enjoyment out of this title, and I think it looks really awesome.
All the games looked great, but some honorable mentions also go to the colorful, animated RPG title Dungeons of Hinterberg, the simulation game Cities: Skylines II, and Jusant.
However, major titles such as Cyberpunk and the Overwatch expansion, the new Forza Motorsport, Fallout 76, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Starfield were also announced.
Starfield was the absolute highlight of the entire event, and the hype was definitely built as it had its own hour of demos and behind-the-scenes content from Bethesda, the game’s developer. It is an open-world space game that can be played in the first or third person.
The game allows you to explore what appears to be an almost infinite space, either by spaceship or on foot. Your ship acts as your home base, so you can customize it extensively, collect companions or crewmates on your journey, and maybe even get romantically involved while exploring the galaxy.
Overall, the game has amazing graphics, incredible lighting, and stunning scenery, and the game mechanics look incredibly nice and offer a lot of options to suit different play styles. For example, if you prefer to navigate the worlds while stealthy, you can improve your skill to take out enemies silently.
Or you can bail yourself out of sticky situations or tackle enemies so hard that you launch them into the sky. The game promises a ridiculously immersive experience with the ability to customize your character’s personality traits and storyline.
I think this could be a huge hit and I will have to give it a try to all players, especially those who love sandbox games. I really hope it lives up to the hype.
